A 17-year-old Provine High School student is in the Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center after allegedly assaulting a school security guard Tuesday morning.
Teen allegedly attacked security guard at school – what if the student attacked another student or a teacher. Wouldn’t you want someone at the school to be able to protect them if they were not able to protect themselves?
The student, whose name was not released because he is charged as a juvenile, was pepper sprayed by officers trying to restrain him, Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green said.
Police were called to the school around 8:30 a.m., because of a student exhibiting “violent behavior,” according to a statement by Jackson Public Schools.
The student allegedly assaulted the school security guard and broke the guard’s glasses, Green said. The student ran from the guard down a hallway where other school employees tried to stop him.
“He started fighting everyone,” Green said.
Neither Green nor JPS officials provided a motive for the student’s actions. No other students were involved in the incident, according to JPS.
