Rhode Island: Teen Stabbed After Football Game Fight

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – A teenager is recovering from a stab wound after a fight at a Pilgrim football game led to a stabbing later Friday evening.

Warwick police responded to Pilgrim High School Friday night where a fight broke out between two girls who were arguing over a romantic interest.

According to police 18-year-old Nicholas Choiniere’s girlfriend, whose name was not released because she is under 18, was one of the girls involved in the fight. Choiniere reportedly accidently struck the other girl involved in the fight while trying to break up the altercation.

The girl who Choiniere is accused of hitting is dating 18-year-old Jonathan Vieira. She was not identified either due to her age.

Police say the fight was broken up and no arrests were made but at 11 p.m. Vieira and two other people showed up at Choiniere’s home on Salt Pond Road.

Once at the home, police said Vieira and the two others attacked Choiniere and his mother, Denise. During the attack Nicholas was stabbed on his left side and was bitten on his right side.

Nicholas was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening stab wound and was released later Friday evening. Denise Choiniere was hit several times in the face but refused treatment.

Justin Vieira now faces several charges including assault with a dangerous weapon. He is being held without bail at the ACI.

Police have not released the other two suspects but say they have issued warrants for their arrests.
