School Committee member Rick Starbard expressed shock this morning at a videotaped fight between two girls that took place apparently after school ended at Lynn English High School at the nearby Cook Street playground.

The videotape shows two girls fighting over an approximately eight-minute period – while a group of teenage boys and girls looked on yelling and cheering – many of them videotaping as well.

At one point, the bigger girl, who is holding the smaller girl by the hair, can be seen on the videotape pounding the other girl’s head into a stone wall.

The videotape, which is now on YouTube, was posted a day ago, but it is not clear when the fight occurred.

“The violence from girls is what’s shocking to me,” Starbard said during an interview today. “That wasn’t the norm when we were kids, and it lingers. It’s not like you shake hands and then it’s over, and you’re friends again the next day.”

Starbard said he planned to immediately call School Resource Officer Bob Ferrari so he could launch a criminal investigation into the matter.

Starbard said he believes the students involved n including the girls and the people who videotaped the fight n should face suspensions or other discipline.
