LA. Fights At Local School Posted To YouTube

Fights between both boys and girls from McDonogh 35 High School in New Orleans were posted online to YouTube, shocking parents with the graphic images.

The Orleans Parish School Board said the students involved in the fights have been disciplined. However, some students say the fights aren’t unusual.

Videos of the fights show students brawling in the hallway, the restroom and at least one classroom.

The videos were posted over the last year and a half.

Joseph Henry, the grandfather of a student, said the videos are horrible.

“I could see after school hours but not during school time, you know?” he said.

Not only did the fights happen during school hours, but some students, like freshman Marquis Teag, said it’s not unusual.

“Sometimes teachers, sometimes students — they don’t never break it up. They like to see it go down. They like to see a fight,” Teag said.

Freshman Ari Cobb said the fights are over insignificant things.

“They’re fighting over stupid reasons and just like, surface reasons, not like, over dumb stuff. It’s just getting ridiculous,” Cobb said.

While students might seem emotionally detached from the brawling, parents question how the fights were allowed to happen and continue uninterrupted.

“Where were the administrators? Where were the teachers? Who were supposed to be posted in the hallways monitoring the students going from class to class?” said parent Pamela Bentley.

In a statement, the Orleans Parish School Board told WDSU it has taken action to quell the violent outbursts.
