Canada. Fight fractures student’s orbital bones and cheek

The recent brawl at Cathedral High School, in which a 14-year-old boy had his cheek and orbital bones fractured while his classmates cheered on the fight and recorded it on their cellphone cameras, is a painful image of what is becoming a growing problem in too many high schools here and abroad.

Many people who work within school systems say they are seeing a growing trend among students who have become bored with violent video games and want to see live blood and guts.

School fights of this kind are recorded and then uploaded to the Internet as entertainment. Some people are using new technology to make compilation videos of schoolyard fights. They are their own producers … making their own star fighters. It is said some young people make DVDs out of these violent and brutal fights and sell them to friends.

Police are seeing more and more of these videos. As with the recent Cathedral High School incident, students are facing assault charges.
