AZ. Girls caught on camera fighting. Five fights in the first seven weeks.

Fights breaking out at a Valley middle school have recently been caught on camera and a lot of them involve girls.

One student who witnessed the fight is pretty shaken up by it, which is understandable when you see the video.

She’s a 7th grader at Kyrene Akimel Middle School, and says she’s witnessed five fights in the first seven weeks of school.

“She had a cartilage earring in her ear and the other girl actually pulled it out. The girl had braces and she started bleeding from the mouth because she got punched in the face,” the 7th grader told us.

Cell phone video shows two girls in quite a cat fight. The 7th grader we spoke to says it happens because both girls like the same boy or a girl was talking behind another girl’s back.

They’re typical problems for middle school students, but these knock-down, drag-out fights shouldn’t be typical. This fight had over 600 YouTube views.

One mom doesn’t understand why the district won’t tell them what’s being done to stop it.

“Other girls are seeing these kinds of fights, the consequences aren’t that severe so then other girls have started to get in on this and started to fight,” says Debbie Busby, a parent of a Kyrene Akimel Middle School student.

“Absolutely there are consequences, there’s no doubt about that,” says Nancy Dudenhoefer, Kyrene Community Relations Director. “The principal will make some decisions about courses of action, but I don’t know what exactly those are right now.”

The girls could be expelled for the fight and the students watching the fight egging them on could also be punished for incitement.

But, what may be the most shocking about these fights is how they start. The 7th grader says the other students use the photo-sharing  to provoke fighting because parents don’t check it like they do Facebook.
