OH. Two Officers Hurt When Juveniles Try To Break Out Of Justice Center. See Video

We are following a developing story at the Montgomery County Adolescent Center, known as the CAS center on Access Road.

Sergeant Rick Mobeus of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirms two officers were hurt inside the facility after a group of juveniles tried to escape.

It happened just before 7:30 Saturday night, when 8 juveniles were having recreation time in the center’s gymnasium. Four of those eight kids rushed a staff member, took his radio, then ran out of the gym and tried to break out of the facility through a glass door.

Officers dropped an ‘officer in trouble’ call, and initially summoned other jurisdictions to the scene, but the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and New Lebanon Fire were the only crews to respond.

“We called for support from the Sheriffs Office and they responded immediately,” said Eric Shafer, Assistant Court Administrator for the Montgomery County Juvenile Court, “Our staff kept kids safe, tried to do whatever they could to resolve the situation as quickly as they could. We were able to bring those four juveniles under control before they escaped.”
