GA: Juvenile Justice Tip Line Aimed to Reduce Violence in the Facilities

Apparently Georgia has implemented a tip hotline where people can report problems at Georgia’s youth detention centers in order to stop the violence at the centers.

So now there’s a web site that will allow employees at state youth detention centers and the public to report complaints anonymously, the youth must be shaking in their crocs and employees can once again feel safe at work.  After all . . .

There’s a new website in town.

Apparently  “this anonymous website is going to impact both the safety and security of detainees and the staff at Georgia’s secure facilities and court services offices.”

There’s an old saying “sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me.”  The website is lip service done on line. The fact that now if employees or the public see something, they can also anonymously say something will, without more, do absolutely nothing to create a safer workplace or juvenile detention environment.  In fact, it will more likely promote staff paranoia and serve as an inhibitor to staff intervening when things become violent which will then cycle into more violence and a more dangerous workplace.

It appears that the Southern Center for Human Rights (SCHR) says this is a good first step, but the Department of Juvenile Justice needs to do more to end violence at its facilities.  Question, if there is so much violence and the working and living conditions of the youth and staff are this dangerous, where’s OSHA?  It would seem that OSHA would be more qualified to handle workplace safety conditions than SCHR.
