NY. Comments from OCFS employees documenting more violence, more assaults and an even more unsafe intervention policy

Tryon employees have spoken out the most and the loudest demanding Gladys Carrion removed from her commissioner position. By closing Tryon she will not silence this cause or these people. Her policies and procedures have destroyed OCFS facilities creating terrible working condition yet they continued to go into a dangerous work environment every day to help at risk youth. Gladys Carrion you have failed the youth and you have failed your employees. Someone needs to make sure you are held accountable for wasted tax payer money, enormous amount of injured staff, murdered staff, your unwillingness to create policies and procedure that ensured all employees and residents safety. Someone needs to make sure your are replaced with a competent leader who can balance both the needs of residents and staff without creating and continuing to allow extremely dangerous facilities.

More arrest at Tryon this week, Tuesday an administrator punched in the face and spat in the face by a resident. Wednesday a staff stabbed in the face by a resident with a pen. Now that the Tryon residents know the facility is closing August 31 they are more unruly and I’m sure there will be several more assaults on employees. Now that an even more dangerous environment has been created why are residents to being brought Tryon? Why bring residents into this environment that is going to set them up for failure? Why bring them to Tryon knowing it’s closing and they will have to be bounced to anther facility? Why are you creating more trauma for this youth and your employees who you forget you do have a responsibility to protect?

The OCFS new restraint policy and procedure started at Tryon on May 31 and the restraint policy and procedure used before that is no longer authorized to be used at all. Why are you forcing staff who are untrained in the new restraint to work with youth every day and telling them they cannot touch a youth or use force at all? How are they supposed to protect themselves and others from harm when they are untrained and not allowed to use force at all? I know a resident will attack them or someone else, they attempt to do their job to the best of their ability with NO tools and the employee will be called into child abuse or arrested for unauthorized use of force while the attacking residents receive a pizza & ice cream party for good behavior all week!!!

I know OCFS is monitoring this web-site so some answer would be nice but I know there be none.
