Canada. Investigators Close in on Toronto School Gunman

Investigators are one step closer to tracking down the gunman responsible for last week’s frightening shooting at a North York school that left a 19-year-old man fighting for his life and wounded a 14-year-old girl.

Toronto Police have released images of suspect vehicle hoping someone can identify the car the shooter is believed to have jumped into last Thursday when he fled from out front of Oakdale Park Middle School on Grandravine Dr. near Jane St. and Finch Ave. W.

“Anyone who recognizes the vehicle should come forward,” Const. Tony Vella pleaded Monday.

The gunman, now wanted for attempted murder, allegedly lay in wait outside the community centre across the street from the school and then opened fire as the 19-year-old victim exited the building just before 10 a.m.

As the wounded man lay on the ground writhing in pain and bleeding, it’s believed the shooter stood over top of him and pumped more bullets into him.

The man was hit at least five times and was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

As the gunman climbed into the rear seat of the getaway car he allegedly opened fire at two 14-year-old girls, who witnessed the ambush, as they exited the school.

One of the girls was hit in the ankle.

As many as three men may have been in the car as it sped off, but so far police only have a description of the shooter.

The gunman is thought to be about 17 or 18 years old, with a light black complexion, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 and he wore a grey hooded top.

He fled in a silver-grey, newer-model, four-door car,

Police have released security camera images of a suspect vehicle, captured by a nearby surveillance camera as it drove out of a nearby parking lot.

Anyone who recognizes the car is urged to call police at 416-808-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
